North West Counties - Second [Step 6]

A Brief History of Cammell Laird F.C.

Founded at the dawn of the last century-1907 is the earliest provenance, although a shipyard team was playing in Birkenhead in 1889- “Lairds” was one of the many works teams in the West Cheshire League at the time. After many local Cup & League wins between the wars and after, it is in the last 30 years that Lairds have dominated local amateur soccer on the Wirral.

Having won the West Cheshire League 19 times in the last 35 years, and also picking up many District & County honours on the way - (as well as beating the likes of Northwich Vics and Altrincham in the County Senior Cup!)- Lairds have made the giant leap onto the Football Pyramid with promotion to the North West Counties League for season 04/05.

Great campaigns in the F.A.Vase over the years have seen three last sixteen appearances and one appearance in the quarter-finals! This season sees our first ever entry into the F.A.Cup with great results -all against “higher” opposition, including memorable victories against Goole AFC and Bridlington Town F.C.

Pitch and ground improvements, including floodlights, are a testimony to the ambition at the Club.
